When it comes to beauty routines, the grass is always greener. Japanese women have it made with their long, glossy hair and Greek women’s olive-toned complexions are always luminous. But how do they do it? Put down your passport—you won’t need to go anywhere to find out. We got insider beauty information from experts on how women across the globe stay gorgeous. Read on to find out their secrets, and learn how you can recreate them at home.
Australia
Australian makeup artist Napoleon Perdis says yarrow extract is used by Australian Aboriginal women to prevent stretch marks, thanks to its moisturizing and hydrating properties. “Yarrow root is also an anti-inflammatory, which soothes the skin.” Calm your complexion with his Auto PilotPre-Foundation Primer , which contains the extract as a key ingredient.

Chile
Chilean women credit the antioxidant powers of red grapes for their luminous skin. They create a paste by mashing up a handful of the fruit and adding 2 tablespoons of white flour. They then apply the mask to their face and leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off. “It wakes up the appearance of tired and fatigued skin to give you an amazing glow,” says Shalini Vadhera, author of Passport to Beauty.

Dominican Republic
“If you ever meet a Dominican woman, look at her nails––chances are they’re super-strong,” says Vadhera. What’s their secret? Women in the Dominican Republic swear by garlic to keep their nails tough as…well, nails. They chop up fresh garlic, add it to a bottle of clear nail polish and let it stew for 7 to 10 days. “There will be an initial smell, so if you want to ward off vampires this is a great way to do it,” jokes Vadhera. “But the scent goes away. Garlic has so many strengthening properties and is naturally antibacterial as well.”

Egypt
According to Vadhera, Cleopatra’s beauty secret was taking milk baths to soften her skin and remove dead cells. To try the treatment at home, Vadhera recommends adding 2 cups of powdered milk to your bath. “It will make your skin look absolutely gorgeous and feel so smooth, silky and soft.”

France
“The French woman sticks to a scrupulous and preventive skin and bodycare routine,” says Shannon Gallogly, lead aesthetician for French beauty brands Decleor and Carita. “This means she has weekly facials, regular massages and religiously takes her makeup off each night.” Gallogly’s recipe for an at-home facial without the price tag of a spa version: Mash up cherries and pomegranate seeds and apply as a mask to the skin for about 6 minutes. “This mask will help brighten skin with natural enzymes while firming at the same time.” Remove the mixture with a warm towel to help boost circulation.

Greece
“Greek women are blessed with Mediterranean skin, which is light in color but has enough melanin to shield and absorb harmful UV rays,” says New York City dermatologist Macrene Alexiades, MD, PhD, who is half Greek. But even if you aren’t genetically blessed, you can still take a cue from the women of Greece. “There are other factors that contribute to their glowing complexion: They eat a Mediterranean diet high in fish, which provides skin-rejuvenating omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, as well as fruits and vegetables, which provide antioxidants and vitamins. They also believe their intake of olive oil contributes to their great skin." So, start reaching for the olive oil instead of butter for better skin.

Israel
Cygalle Dias, owner of New York City’s Cygalle Healing Spa, was born in Israel and believes in the healing powers of sea salt. “When you swim in the Dead Sea, all of the salt helps your body rid itself of toxins, and it has also been known to help cure skin diseases.” To get the detoxifying benefits of sea salt at home, Dias shares her spa’s Lavender Sea Salt Scrub recipe: Mix together ¼ cup sea salt, 1 pinch seaweed powder, ½ cup massage oil and 10 to 15 drops lavender oil. Apply to skin to gently exfoliate.

Italy
How do Italian women maintain their glossy locks? According to Fabio Scalia, Italian hairstylist and owner of Fabio Scalia salon in Brooklyn, New York, the answer is right in your kitchen. Italian women keep their hair shiny by combining yogurt and olive oil and using the mixture as a conditioner. “The protein in the yogurt gently nourishes and conditions.” To whip up the rich treatment at home, Scalia recommends mixing 1 cup of plain whole-milk yogurt with 1 teaspoon olive oil. Then apply the mixture to washed hair, let it sit for 5 minutes and rinse with cool water.

Japan
Titi Branch, the half-Japanese cofounder of Miss Jessie’s hair care line, credits seaweed for Japanese women’s long, silky hair. Nori is a rich source of the trace mineral iodine, which is essential for healthy hair growth. (According to Branch, the iodine added to table salt isn’t the right kind to nourish your hair because your body doesn’t easily absorb it.) Seaweed is also a rich source of other mane-strengthening minerals—including iron, zinc, selenium and copper. “Japanese women either eat nori seaweed or boil it and apply it to dry hair as a nourishing paste.” Head to your local Asian grocer or health food store to pick up sheets of nori. “It’s traditionally used to wrap sushi, but you can use it like a tortilla to wrap up veggies with a dash of soy sauce, or crumble the sheets and sprinkle them on a salad, rice or stir-fry,” advises Branch.

Spain
Spanish women bring out natural, subtle highlights in their hair by rinsing it with cranberry juice, says Vadhera. Try mixing ¼ cup pure juice (not cocktail blends) with ¼ cup water and doing a final rinse with it in the shower. “If you’re going to be in the sun, the cranberry juice brings out the rich hues in your hair,” she says. “It works amazingly on brunettes, but if you’re blonde you’ll want to use lemon juice instead to avoid ending up with pink hair.”

Sweden
Swedish women attribute their glowing, healthy skin to their diet of antioxidant-packed fresh berries and grilled fish, says Petra Strand, Swedish makeup artist and creator of makeup line Pixi, now available at Target. Give yourself a hit of antioxidants by trying Strand’s at-home treatment: Boil mineral water with a green tea or white tea bag, let the tea infuse the water and then freeze it into ice cubes to use instead of a toner. “Saunas are also a big part of Swedish culture,” says Strand. “The dry, clean heat rids your body of toxins.” To get the effect of a sauna at home, Strand says to take a handful of rock salt and add a dash of olive oil and about 10 drops of pure eucalyptus oil. Rub it all over your body and rinse with a blast of cold water.

Pumpkin Seed Chips

Details: Mother's Farms Pumpkin Seed Tortilla Chips.  100% certified Gluten Free, whole grain.  No cholesterol, low sodium.  6 servings per bag  with one serving being about 9 chips.

My Review:  My Mother-In-Law bought these for me to try, knowing I love tortilla chips, and I love pumpkin.  These are super yummy!  Great with dip, but they are very fragile chips and don't make good dipping chips because they break so easily.  So I recommend using a spoon to put dip on these chips, no dunking allowed!  You can smell the pumpkin, and a pumpkin spice like cinnamon or nut meg, but neither are in the ingredients.  I'm totally in love with these chips, I can see myself buying a lot of these this fall for a side to pumpkin soups, squash soups, as a side for those yummy fun pot luck holiday dinners.

see the pumpkin seed in the chip?

Pros: DELICIOUS

Cons: break easily, not a good dunking/ dipping chip

Nutritional Powdered Green Drink

Details:  Total Nutrition is 100% all natural, organic, supplement to add to your favorite choice of drink.  It is rich in antioxidants, has 9 essential amino acids, and made from all the "Good Stuff".  It contains barley grass, wheat grass, spirulina, spinach, alfalfa, kelp, dulse, orange peel, beet roots, dandelion leaf, lemon peel, gingko, honey, bee pollen, reishi mushrooms, blueberry, black currants, pomegranate, concord grape, red raspberry, cour cherry, wild elderberry, wild cranberry, black raspberry, goji berries, schizandra berries.  Wow!  You can find this at Immortalherbs.
powdered green drink

Review:  Having just gone through an entire summer drinking green drink containing a lot of the same ingredients listed above, I was certainly anxious to give this a try.  The biggest difference is that my ingredients were fresh, not dried.  I stopped making our green drink, due to infestations of fruit flies which love wheat grass.  In the hot humid climate I live in, they thrived.  Now that the weather is getting cooler, and humidity has dropped, I'll be growing more wheat grass.

powdered green drink

During the summer months, I would consider taking the Total Nutrition Supplement.  However, 1 packet costs $70.00.  I couldn't find anywhere on their website how many servings that contains.

Compared to the fresh ingredients vs. the dry ingredients, both DH and I agree, we would take the fresh any day over the powdered.  They do recommend you add this to either soy, rice, or oat milk, or juice or water.  How about adding it to their Superfood Smoothie:
10 oz. peach or mango juice
1/2 cup each of frozen pineapple, peaches, and strawberries
Blend with 1 scoop Total Nutrition until smooth.

Total Nutrition is a great alternative though if you don't want to mess around with juicing  your own greens.  We did notice an improved difference in our health and energy, and being able to sleep better at night when we were drinking "green drink."

Pros:  Filled with all the great nutritional products to provide you with the necessary nutrients you need.  Your body will go from "surviving" to "vibrant."

Cons:  A bit more than I want to pay for something that doesn't list on the website how many servings you are getting.  The powder will taste better mixed in juice or smoothies, not with water.

My Rating:  Thumbs Up and Down.  A great product, just not sure about the price.

Collagen 2

Details: NeoCell offers a variety of ways to get the various types of collagen our bodies need.  As we age, our bodies slow way down in the ability to make collagen.  Collagen is what helps keeps our skin, nails, hair, joints, ligaments, tendons, bones, muscles, etc., all nice and lubricated.  Collagen is "the glue that holds the body together."  Collagen is a vital ingredient our body needs.
Collagen 2
As discussed in our post on how Collagen strengthens hair and nails, there are various types of collagen.  This post is about Collagen Type 2.  This is the protein needed to maintain and to rebuild cartilage tissue.  Neocell's Collagen Type 2 is a complete joint supplement containing glucosamine, chondroitin and hyaluronic acid.  All key ingredients to help support joint  health and strength.

Review: My dh has frozen shoulder.  He injured his shoulder over a year ago during a softball game.  Before he regained full use of the mobility in his shoulder, he injured the other one doing the same thing.  Now he can barely lift his hands above his head, and sometimes has difficulty getting his tshirts on and off.

When we discovered NeoCell, we were both excited to have him try the Collagen Type 2.  It's been about 3 weeks since he started taking the capsules.  Just 4 a day on an empty stomach and with Vitamin C.  It took about 1 1/2 weeks before he started to notice a difference.  I no longer needed to help him get his tshirts on, and on rare occasions I have to help him take them off.

We've set up a bench mark to track his progress.  Each week he is able to move his shoulders more and more.  There isn't a very fast or dramatic change that has taken place, it is slow and gradual, but the Collagen Type 2 is working. Needless to say, dh is very excited about the progress.

Other benefits he has noticed, his hair is growing faster and thicker, and the gray is disappearing. (He'll never need to worry about having those aging balding spots.)

Pros:  Collagen Type 2 is doing exactly what we were hoping it would do, in allowing my dh arms and shoulders to move more freely than before.  Check out our positive post here about NeoCell collagen 1 & 3.

Cons:  None that we can see.

My Rating:  Thumbs UP!

My Review:  Okay, just to start with, I could have used this when I was living in Utah because of the dry weather, I was literally sick for 3 whole years.  This works really well.  It helped me stay healthy during a flue and cold out break.  I feel like I need to recommend these, but I really have issues with GIANT pills that you have to swallow.  Having to take 4 huge pills daily isn't really worth it to me, so I only start taking them when I feel like I am getting sick, and within 3 - 5 days those little feelings of trying to get sick are gone.  And I don't get sick!  So if you struggle with being sick alot, and if you live in cold weather, and or dry weather I highly recommend these products to you.  I highly recommend taking them with food (not just a liquid) because other wise you burp of the not so pleasant flavors of the oils.  I also highly suggest you drink them down with your favorite juice, it helps me take large pills.  Other positive notes: I love that its all natural, and cold pressed.  I love that its oils because they tend to dissolve sooner than a chunky pill.

Pros: works great, helps keep you healthy, prevents sickness

Cons: large pills to take, you burp of the flavors if not taken with food or juice.

Arch Support Sandals

Details:  Okabashi ~ More than a Shoe.  Okabashi is a family run business that make their shoes in the US.  They offer superior arch support, they have a massaging insole, they are anti-microbial, and anti-slip.  You can even wash them in the dishwasher.  They carry men's and women's flip flops, sandals and clog style shoes.

Review:  I was super excited to get my new pair of Okabashi's.  I've been wanting some all summer long, but something always got in my way of getting them.

Arch Support Sandals

I have an extremely high arch, and that was the first thing that attracted me to Okabashi.  I hate to wear shoes, so if I must, it might as well be comfortable ones.  There's lots of water where I live.  Pools,  Ponds, Lakes, Rivers, Oceans, and lots of Rain.  The anti-slip was a great feature.  I was able to experience that first hand today.  We had a down pour, and not once did I slip on any wet floors while shopping.
With all the moisture around, I also don't need any microbes growing on my shoes either.

I really like my new pair of sandals, and since they are sold in stores like Walgreens and WalMart, I'm looking to get a couple more pair before they all disappear for the winter.

These shoes come in a variety of styles, colors, and categories.  Each have a 2 year guarantee.  They have Arthritis shoes, diabetic shoes, flexible shoes, shower shoes, recyclable shoes, and vegan shoes.

Pros:  These are a very comfortable sandal. I enjoyed wearing these all day when I was shopping, especially while it was raining, and I didn't slip and slide all over the stores.
Arch Support Sandals
Cons:  I chose the Indigo style, and my foot doesn't quite fit in the shoe properly.  The shoe kind of sits sideways on my foot.  I believe it's just my foot, but not sure.  The sizing isn't quite like a normal shoe size, and I'm actually inbetween sizes.  That could also account for the way my foot fits in the sandal.

My Rating:  Thumbs Up.

DIY Night Cleansers & Creams

Trying to find that perfect night cream or cleanser and don't want to pay a fortune for it?  Well here are some ideas you can try.

Night Cleanser:

Add 2 parts Castor oil and 8 parts Sunflower oil.  Blend well.  Use this to clean the makeup off your face and eyes.

I personally add to the above, 1 part coconut oil, 1 part clear aloe vera gel, 1 part vegetable glycerin.

After I cleanse my face, I use a DIY astringent listed below.  Then I take a dime size of the the above Night Cleanser and massage it on my face.  Afterwards, I get my fingers wet and massage again.  Glycerin reacts with water and allows the moisture, along with the sunflower oil, to seep into your deeper layers of skin better, providing deeper moisturizing.

Astringent:

Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar with 1 part water.  Apply with cotton balls until all makeup residue is gone.

Night Cream:

If you've already purchased a night time moisturizer that you don't like, don't throw it out just yet.  Take your inferior night cream (4 oz.), and add 1/8 teaspoon of liquid Vitamin C and the contents of a 100-IU Vitamin E capsule.  Blend well.  You now have a more nourishing night cream that will do more for your face than before.

Calcium DX gummies

Details: Natural Dynamix Calcium DX gummies for adults.  Healthy bones: 60 gummies diatery supplement.  spring forward to optimal health.  250mg of Calcium + 400IU Vitamin D.  Natural flavors, colors from natural sources, Gluten Free.  1 gummy a serving, 60 serving per bottle.  Free of wheat, milk, or dairy, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, and soy.

Disclaimer: I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

My Review:  I love gummy vitamins period.  They are so much more enjoyable to take, and easier to take as well.  Gummy vitamins actually give you something to look forwards to as you take these daily.  But for me
personally calcium is just one of those supper important vitamins (along with the vitamin d) that as a woman I REALLY need to take on a daily basis, but its so hard to find a calcium that my body will handle.  I've tried the chocolate, strawberry and caramel chews from Viactiv, and the Equate brands.  I've tried Vita Fusion calcium gummies.  And I've tried multiple different calcium capsules and pills, and even just downing tons of dairy and or dark green leafy vegetables to get the calcium my body needs.  None of them have really helped me without giving me any type of side effect.  This brand isn't the first gummy calcium that I've had, but its the first that I can actually see and feel a difference.  My stomach and body doesn't react poorly to this brand, I have been taking it daily without missing since I got it a few days ago.  It tastes good, and although there is some sugar in this, that small amount of sugar doesn't harm me either.  I can't believe that only one gummy is what I need daily.  Usually with gummies for adults you need between 2 - 4 gummies to take in the recommended daily amount of those vitamins.  I highly recommend Natural Dynamix calcium DX gummies!  They are worth it!

Pros: great flavors, all natural, easy to take, no yucky side effects

Cons: none

Collagen To Help Strengthen Nails, Hair

Details: NeoCell is a wonderful website filled with natural nutritional supplements to benefit the hair, skin and nails.  Their products contain collagen which begins to decline in our bodies at an early age.  Their products contain Collagen 1, 2, & 3.  There is a difference between these.  From NeoCell's website, it states,
"Scientific studies show that more than 90% of the collagen found in the body is Collagen Type 1&3. The protein composition consists of nineteen amino acids responsible for the growth and maintenance of the body with unusually high percentages of glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline, which are all found in the skin and muscle. Collagen Type 2 protein consists of eighteen amino acids, which amino acid profiles parallel the profile of the joint cartilage. Collagen Type 1&3 and Collagen Type 2 should not be combined due the types having different amino acid profiles. If taken together, the two proteins will bind and form a complete protein and the body will not recognize it as collagen."

Review:  I was able to review 2 products from NeoCell.  The product I chose for myself was the Collagen Type 1&3.  This is specifically  to replenish the body's diminishing supply of collagen.  In turn this will help minimize fine lines and wrinkles, improve elasticity in the skin, help bones become stronger, corrects weak, broken and split ends of hair, helps damaged nail beds, helps thicken fine hair, improves circulation, promotes wound healing, and helps build lean muscle to help burn fat while you sleep.  Wow!  What more could you ask for in just 6 tablets a day.

Before I started taking this, I had two split fingernails, damaged hair, fine lines, and in desperate need for improved circulation and who wouldn't want to burn fat while sleeping.  Three weeks into the routine of taking these tablets, my split fingernails finally stopped splitting, my hair appeared thicker (no I didn't change shampoos or conditioners), and I am losing weight.  My face seems more plump - not fat, just fewer wrinkles and the lines around my eyes are diminishing.  I feel my face has more elasticity.  This stuff is great.  I only take the tablets 5 days a week, so I'm not real consistent in taking them 7 days a week, and still I've noticed great improvement.  I still have a ways to go, but I can say this is working.  This is a product I will keep using.

Neocell Super Collagen+C Type 1 and 3, 6000mg plus Vitamin C, 250 Count

You can find NeoCell on FB, Twitter, youtube and Instagram.

Pros: So far everything they say would happen has happened for me.  It's slow, but then again, this is an internal method of improving various aspects of your skin, nails and hair.  I'm excited to continue on to see the full results of an entire bottle.

Cons:  The tablets are a little dry, no slick coating, and only sometimes do they get stuck in my throat, to where I have to eat something to get them down.  But this is normal for me, maybe not you.

My Rating: A big Thumbs UP!!!

Sunset Dreams Book

Details:  Sunset Dreams is a wonderful motivational photography book created by Suzy Liebermann.  This book was created for your inspiration and daily meditation.  Relax and indulge in the beauty of sunsets from the Islands of the Bahamas.

Review:  Once again Suzy has done a magnificent job at creating another beautiful motivational photography book.  The sunsets from the Bahamas are breath taking.  The quotes and thoughts are very uplifting.  My bucket list includes a cruise to the Bahamas, and now after viewing such beautiful sunsets, I think I need to move that up on the schedule.  Until I can travel to the Bahamas, however, I have Sunset Dreams to view over and over again.

Be sure to get your own copy here and dream about the Bahama sunsets tonight.  With Christmas right around the corner, be sure to order extra copies as gifts.

Pros:  Beautiful photography, beautiful thoughts.  I Love this book.

Cons:  None.

Educational Alphabet Flash Cards

Details: Educational Toys Planet's Alphabet Flash Cards are great for children ages 3, children ages 4, and children ages 5.  Using fun, happy, bright, colorful images, images that are larger just for smaller children.  Smooth sturdy card stock, with slightly rounded edges of each flash card helps children enjoy hold these, plus they're safe to hold.  Great for teaching image letter recognition.  Each package comes with a whole 26 upper case letter set and a whole 26 lower case letter set, 2 parent/teacher cards, a game idea/ suggestion card.

My Review:  The day we got these in the mail, my 3 year old claimed them as his school supplies, and wouldn't share with his 6 year old.  After the 6 year old went to bed my 3 year old stayed up begging for me to use his school supplies with him.  So at 10:30pm my 3 year old and I are sitting in my bed with a warm softie blanket around us learning the Big letters, the Little letters, and the images that go with them.  He loved it so much!  This is perfect for a little kid who is learning the ABCs.  The pictures are my favorite.  Some ABC kid flashcards or books use images that kids don't know.  But with these flashcards my 3 year old knew all but 4 images, and those images he didn't know, are of things he hasn't ever seen before. (i. e. ink bottle, ball of yarn).

Pros: I love this, my 3 year old LOVES this

Cons: none
